See What Unilorin VC said about Unilorin Students/Graduates

The University of Ilorin is blazing a trail in entrepreneurship education to ensure the production of graduates that would be job creators.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sulyman Abdulkareem, disclosed this at the University Auditorium last Tuesday (December 19, 2017) while declaring open a sensitisation workshop organised by the Unilorin Technical Entrepreneurship Centre (TEC) on the introduction of the practical skills acquisition course (GSE301) for 300 level students of the University.

Prof. Abdulkareem, who spoke through the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Adedayo Abdulkareem, said, “I am indeed happy that this workshop is holding to finalise the mode of delivery of the practical skills acquisition course for the 300 level students. This is the best way to proceed to ensure a seamless and objective driven delivery of the course for the ultimate benefits of the students, the community and Nigeria at large”.

The Vice-Chancellor said, “When the NUC enforced entrepreneurship education for all universities, the University of Ilorin Senate sought to strengthen the existing course at TEC. The Senate subsequently in 2014 approved the introduction of practical skills acquisition aspect to ensure that vocational skills are properly gained during the university education of the students here in the better by far campus. The course, hitherto, has been a 3 units single course”, he added.

He said that the University is adding a twin training room complex to the existing building at the Technical and Entrepreneurship Centre.

Prof. Abdulkareem added, “The University has identified the need to have an integrated entrepreneurship centre with as many thriving skills as possible with facilities for effective training of students and volunteer trainers among staff and members of our immediate community apart from generating revenue for the University from the sales of the items produced.

To boost the Centre's activities, the Vice-Chancellor disclosed that another set of equipment, funded by TETFund, will soon be delivered, adding that it would further enhance the University's effort at creating new daily services and training at the Centre.

He said, “These new skill areas include Photography and Events Management, Snail Breeding, Repair of Radio, Computers, and Watches, and additional equipment to complement the existing ones on Fashion, Bags, Leather Works, Household Consumables, Detergents, Shampoos, and Aquaculture skills.

Prof. Abdulkareem expressed happiness that the workshop was holding to finalise the mode of delivery of the practical skills acquisition course for the 300 level students. “This”, according to him, “is the best way to proceed to ensure a seamless and objective driven delivery of the course for the ultimate benefits of the students, the community and Nigeria at large”.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Director of the Centre, Dr. Is'haq Funsho Abdul, said that the task of delivering the GNS 301 calls for sound preparation to secure the programme and give the students value for their money and time.

Dr. Abdul said, “More importantly, the students should gain enough experience within the short period of a semester to become self sufficient and capable of earning some income from the skills learnt if they so choose to be self-employed after graduation”.

The Director said that the workshop would afford participants an opportunity to refresh their memories on entrepreneurship education, gain insight on how and best ways to deliver hands-on vocational training, prepare their own learning guides and possibly manuals as well as methods of assessing the students at the end of the semester.

While presenting his paper titled “Entrepreneurship Education”, the Chief Executive Officer of D-Positive Change, Mr. Nasir Abdulquadri, said that for entrepreneurship education to be successful, participants must “consider and give extraordinary time to thinking and approaches to our extraordinary economic problems”.

Mr. Abdulquadri stressed that “our educational system must be totally overhauled and made 21st century compliant”, saying, “We cannot continue to churn out graduates into 21st century economy with 19th/20th century educational curriculum”.

According to the Guest Speaker, “The employee mind set approach of our educational system must be changed to at least entrepreneurship mind set approach and we should realize that the compulsory entrepreneurship center in each higher institution is never enough to cater for thousands of our undergraduate students, hence the domiciliation of peculiar entrepreneurship education into each course of study”.

Top 10 Career with huge money in agriculture

1. Food Science
Food scientists have been in great demand since the start of the century, and job growth is expected to continue going up. Food scientists improve food products and create new ones by researching and experimenting with combinations of raw ingredients, food sources, and food processing techniques. As an example, Louis Pasteur discovered the food processing method named after him, but it was food scientists who developed thin, individually wrapped, square slices of pasteurized cheddar cheese that never go bad.

2.Veterinarian
As long as there are farm animals, there will be a demand for veterinarians. The importance of veterinarians in agriculture goes far beyond the need to keep valuable livestock healthy. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's One Health approach emphasizes the idea that the health of animals is inextricably connected to human and environmental health. This interdisciplinary approach encourages widely varying industries, professions, and institutions to work together.

3.Farm Workers and Laborers
Farm workers and laborers are essential to the agriculture industry, and despite the seasonal nature of some jobs, they are always in demand. The sheer number and diversity of jobs in this category may surprise you. Agricultural workers and laborers are employed in greenhouses and plant nurseries as well as on farms and ranches. Federal and state inspectors are classified as agricultural workers, too. In addition to planting and harvesting crops, farm workers and laborers perform related tasks such as installing irrigation systems, packing and loading harvested food onto trucks for shipment, and maintaining farm equipment. They also do routine animal care tasks on ranches and dairy farms, keep written records on animals, assist at births, and keep animal housing areas clean.

4.Horticulturists
Horticulture and agriculture are related fields. The Latin roots "horti-" and "agri-" mean garden, and land, respectively. But horticulture is much more than simply a fancy word for gardening. Horticulturists focus their skills and experience on growing and selling highly marketable fruits and vegetables, flowers, and decorative plants. Landscape designers, nursery managers, florists, and forestry experts manage natural resources on both public and private lands, as well as for the timber industry and large private corporations, and for farms that grow and sell flowers and plants.

5.Agricultural Equipment Operators
These highly skilled agricultural workers drive, operate, and maintain the equipment used to plant and harvest crops, such as tractors, balers, conveyors, manure spreaders, mowers, shredders, harvesters, and power washers. The job outlook for agricultural equipment operators has been continuously good for the past 10 years, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

6. Bookkeeping, Accounting, and Auditing Clerks
Every industry needs numbers people to count the money and keep track of expenses. As one of the most important industries in the United States, agriculture is no exception. In addition to working directly for farms and ranches, there are lots of companies and businesses that specialize in serving the agricultural industry's accounting and record-keeping needs.

7. Truck Drivers
Commercial agriculture on the massive scale it exists today would scarcely be possible without the ability to ship large quantities of meat, fruits, and vegetables vast distances without spoilage. The job outlook for heavy-load, tractor-trailer drivers is excellent. According to the BLS, employment in this field is projected to increase by 21 percent in the decade 2010-2020.

8. Food Packers and Packagers
Before agricultural products can reach their ultimate destination, they must be packaged safely and appropriately for shipment. This is what food packers and packagers do. Contemporary packing operations are usually done with sophisticated package processing equipment that takes skill and experience to operate. As you might expect, the employment outlook for food packers in agriculture is best in parts of the country where agriculture is a larger part of the economy, like California, Texas, and portions of the Midwest and South.

9.Agribusiness Management
Agribusiness is the management field of the agriculture industry. Some who work in agribusiness own or manage farms and ranches themselves; others work for separate businesses that exist to support farms and ranches. According to the 2012 Agribusiness Job Report, there were 43 percent more applications posted on AgCareer.com than in 2011, and job listings were up from the previous year as well.

10.Agricultural and Natural Resources Communications
This is the field for you if you want to combine an interest in agriculture with an interest in communications. Agricultural communications professionals work in print and broadcast journalism, on the staffs of magazines and newspapers, as press spokespeople, as public relations, advertising, and marketing executives, and as educators. Job growth for public relations jobs is especially strong. According to Utah State University's undergraduate program in agricultural communication and journalism, such jobs are projected to increase by 24 percent between 2008 and 2018.

I Might Leave Manchester United’- This Red Devils Star Midfielder Finally Confirms

Manchester United midfielder, Marouane Fellaini, has admitted he might leave the club, even if he is given another contract offer.
Fellaini, who could leave Old Trafford for free in the summer, turned down an offer in September.
The 30-year-old midfielder expects the Premier League giants to make another proposal, but concedes it might not change anything.
“Honestly, I don’t know. I do have something in mind, but I cannot say anything about this yet.DOWNLOAD NAIJASCHOOLG APP AND GET LATEST NEWS
“If Manchester didn’t want me anymore, they would have told me. They made an offer and they will likely make me another one. Whether I will accept that I am not sure. Those things don’t happen overnight,” Fellaini told Belgian publication, Humo.
United manager, Jose Mourinho, has made no secret of his admiration for Fellaini, describing him as “very important” earlier this season.

UPDATE ON THE Law School’s position on hijab

The Muslim Lawyers’ Association of Nigeria has described as unlawful the recent refusal by the Nigerian Law School to allow Firdaus Amasa entrance into the venue of the ‘ Call to Bar’ ceremony recently in Abuja because she put on hijab .

MULAN made the declaration in a communique on Monday in Katsina shortly after its three- day extra- ordinary National Executive Committee meeting .

The communiqué , signed by the association ’ s National President, Dr . Kamal Dawud , read , “ On the issue of discrimination, humiliation and the subsequent denial of calling Firdaus Al-Jannah Amasa to the Nigerian Bar , MULAN maintains that the position of the law remains as decided by the Court of Appeal in its judgment in ‘ The Provost, Kwara State College of Education , Ilorin & 2 Ors v. Bashirat Saliu & 2 Ors ( CA /IL/ 49/ 2006) , and Asiyah & Ors v. LASG & Ors (2016 ) , 15 NWLR ( Pt 1535 ) 117 , where the court declared that the use of hijab by female Muslim students constitutes an act of worship , hence the refusal to allow the appellants wear it on their uniform is a clear infraction of their rights .

“ This remains the position of the law and it is unlawful to deprive female Muslims from putting on the hijab in government - owned institutions .

“ The association salutes Amasa ’ s courage and defiance in standing up for her rights and adhering to the tenets of her religion.

“ MULAN is also not oblivious of the lopsided tilt of our legal system . Muslim lawyers have been subjected to conform to certain practices and adorn themselves with paraphernalia like the wig and gown that have Judeo /Christian neo -colonialist origin without complain.

“ MULAN has set up a nine- man committee to meet and make representations to all relevant authorities in order to ensure that the issue is justly determined .”

The National President of MULAN , in his presentation, encouraged lawyers to rise up to the challenge of ensuring the peaceful co-existence of Nigerians with respect and obedience to the rule of law .

Justice Musa Abubakar , who represented the Chief Judge of Katsina State , Justice A. Yusuf, on the occasion , urged Muslims not to be discouraged by what he described as recurring global persecution but to hold on tenaciously to the tenets of Islam.

5 Artistes That Need To Stop Making Music

I am certain, I am not the only one who knows that the artistes listed below have not only lost their relevance in the music industry and lives of people, but they are slowly but surely putting us through tremendous pain whenever they decide to shake off the cobwebs from the music alter ego to drop a new song.

D’banj

There was a time, let’s call it the early 2000’s when D’banj was the king of all lyrics mediocre yet sometimes fascinating to light-minded Nigerians but even this ‘juju’ doesn’t seem to work for them anymore, as it seems the singer just doesn’t cut it for the masses anymore. D’banj has since transcended music as his short legacy has over the years been more talk of the mouth and appearances on ads.
His last album ‘The King Don Come’ is another reason why its clear D’banj’s moment as a musical force, has long since passed.
It’s not a lie, we will not be googling D’banj so much anymore, and like you said you have nothing to prove, so face being CREAM and your label and save us all another cringe-worthy moment next year.

Olu Maintain

Please just retire already. The newer the songs the wackier they get! Why??? On a first listen of your last single, my reaction was simply “Ewo, Owo jona!” waste of a high-quality video and a surprisingly good ice prince verse. Yes you had hits, ‘Fatima’ was my favorite song for a really long while, but it’s time to let go before every last bit of your legendary status is torn to shreds.

Kcee

Remove a song, it’s just a dude trying so hard to focus on not going off key, soloing into infinity, whining a rigid waist in his music video, bragging about cash that isn’t his and may never be his, and showing the world he knows his colors right and can combine them well when need be. You need not make a new track to show this side of you, dude!

Sound Sultan

I mean it’s all cute to hear the ‘never say never’ quote, but deep down we all know when it’s time to hang the booth. His continuous music streamlined in the same direction is nothing but a constant struggle to be on the same pedestal as the artistes he started out with… Good news! You needn’t do that anymore…
You gave us some good music while you could…
let’s just leave it at is. We want to remember you for ‘Ole’ ‘Mathematics’, ‘Ajodabile’, ‘Natural something’ and even ‘kokose’ not ‘Monsura’ and the likes. Geshomo that was a slightly above average record, you ruined it with the headless and non-syncing video. Please do not ruin your brand for the sake of staying relevant.

Banky W

Smartly, he’s diverting to making and acting in movies. What was his last hit? We love you and Susu, but consider running your label and facing movies. Singles once in a while, we won’t mind. Even an album. But you should consider pulling back a little from music. Leave RNB to the Nonso Amadi’s.
So guys, do you agree with our list? If no, tell us why, if yes and you have more names to add to this list, please do so in our comment section.
